With the 964, Porsche reinvented the concept of the Luftgekühlt boxer in the rear, which had been declared dead, in 1988. 85 percent of the model series was newly developed, the Carrera 4 was the first production sports car with all-wheel drive – and to this day, the 964 is the epitome of the modern classic for many: classic 911 silhouette, sophisticated technology, compact dimensions, precise handling.

Berlin Motor Books is now dedicating the third volume of the LUFTGEKÜHLT series to this generation. On 448 pages, the book documents all series and special models from the 1989 to 1994 model years – including variants that are largely unknown even to connoisseurs. Four detailed buyer’s guides (Carrera 2, Carrera 4, 964 RS and Turbo 3.3 / 3.6) provide practical orientation. There are also rare sales brochures, list prices from 1989 to 1994 and the development of used car prices from 2018 to 2026.

One focus is on the 964 RS, the second edition of the legendary Carrera RS. The developers also have their say – a look behind the scenes that is rarely available in this form.

Material and processing

Each piece is made by hand. The raw mold made of synthetic resin is carefully prepared, sanded and primed. Several coats of lacquer are then applied, sanded in between and sealed with a protective lacquer. This is followed by polishing and a special coating – for a surface with depth and an even shine. The effort is visible and noticeable.

Scope of delivery & presentation

The sculpture comes in a black presentation box that opens at the top. Inside is the certificate of authenticity and a short history of Paul McLine. A metal plaque with the logo and artist’s signature is engraved on the underside of the sculpture.

What was your first 911? Photographer Kai Hartmann asked 36 people on four continents this question – and captured their answers in 320 pages and 338 photographs.

911 Design is dedicated to a central question: Why has the shape of the Porsche 911 worked for six decades – and why does it remain unmistakable despite constant further development?

For the first time, Michael Mauer, Head of Style Porsche and the designer responsible for all current models, explains the design evolution of the 911 at first hand. On 296 pages, he looks at all eight generations from the original model to the 992, describes design decisions, evaluates proportions, lines and details – and places them in the context of their respective times.
